Abigail Elein Freeman was born October 29, 1976. She was born and raised in Sacramento, California by interracial parents Victoria Freeman and George Sanders. She grew up with mostly democratic views but says ¨My parents always told me to vote for a name, not a party.” and to “ Vote for a person, not a label." She married Gabriel Aubry in 2003 and and had a daughter of her own a year later in 2004. She says daughter Nahla is the main reason she is running for president. "My daughter is six, to young to understand most things about the world. But when she grows up and that changes, I plan for there to be nothing to taint her view on the amazing world we live in. No disease, no poverty, no violence, and a thriving natural environment."
Freeman majored in political science and law at Berkeley and and went to Harvard to study law. She graduated early for a job with a small law firm in Maryland. After twelve years with that firm, she opposed governor Martin J. O'Malley for 2008 Maryland State Senator. She won, and was reelected in the both 2010 and 2012 elections. When asked why she is giving up her spot as Senator to run for President, she said this: ¨ I have already made a big difference on one small part of the world, and I know that. But until the unemployment rate is at 0%, the poverty rate is at 0%, and the crime rate is as low as it can be, I am not finished. To do these things I have to go even farther than Senate, and that is what I plan to do.”
